The Introduction

Built in 1932 by the Dutch architectural firm Keyes and Dowdeswell for the Trustees of the Estate of Loke Wan Tho, the original Hotel Majestic was an iconic landmark in Kuala Lumpur, featuring a blend of neo-classical and art deco styles rooms. Situated on a hilltop facing the Moorish-style railway station, the hotel was distinguished by its tall white Roman columns, detailed cornices, curved driveway, and covered Porte Cochere. Despite losing its prominence by the 1970s to newer hotels, it was preserved as a heritage building and served as the National Art Gallery from 1984 to 1998.
